11/06/23 — Game update 02.8 — Save to file feature

This update is purely technical and doesn’t add any new story content.

I added a custom macro to the game that will allow you to save your game into a file that you can download. This will provide you with a back-up, should your saves be erased from your cookies.

Additionally, to make the experience loading from a file a little smoother, the save and load windows are now popups, so they’ll look a little different.

I also increased the number of save slots from 5 to 9.

A few notes on how it works, please read!

Saving The ‘save to file’ link will save the corresponding slot into a file. It will only save a pre-existing save so if the slot is empty, you won’t be able to download any file. Make sure to save the usual way before downloading the file through the provided link.

Loading When loading from a file, it will overwrite the corresponding slot. You can load the file into an empty slot if you want to avoid deleting any present save.

Old saves Due to the change in formatting, I recommend you do not save to file your old saves directly. If you want to save them into a file, load them, save them again the usual way and then download the file using the ‘save to file’ link. If you don’t do this, you could end up stuck on the save page when loading from that file. If it does happen, you can leave the save page by going through the settings or the character sheet and then back to the story.

While the feature does work on iPhone, you may have to do a little bit of fiddling if you use Safari. Safari may add .txt to your save file when downloading it. If it does, you won’t be able to load the file into the game unless you remove the .txt extension.

To do that, you’ll have to go into your files folder, press on the file until a menu opens and choose ‘rename’. Once the name of your file is selected, tap it and a few different options should show up. Changing the extension is the very last one. Delete .txt and your file should be ready for use!

I’m sorry for the inconvenience it undoubtedly is, but there’s no way around it that I’m aware of.

Additional recommendations

I once again recommend with sticking with one of the two versions of the game. It’s especially true since, from now on, both versions will have the same IFID which is what’s used to encode the save files. That means there may be some overlap of saves between each version and you possibly can use your save files on both versions. It may however cause some bugs since the recorded progression in the save might not be the same depending on the version you played.

Here I am, once again. This is a purely technical update. What I've done:

Updated the customization part (nothings been added or subtracted, I simply made it possible to navigate through it and made it less messy)

tried my best

started some code and writing for the next content update. (its not in the files yet)

hopefully reduced errors.

Stats: dude (gender neutral), so much more code. I'm not even adding it into the total stats, but its like, 100 new lines of code, since my codes always a mess.

there's something so deeply dystopian to me how tech companies don't understand that a forced convenience is not a convenience at all. i'm sure autocorrect is helpful for many, but a function that forcibly changes my actual written words and punctuation is taking away my language. photo filters can be nice but i need to choose using them myself or else i have lost the ability to take the picture i want. i don't want a machine to draw or write for me. taking away the option for me to do things manually feels like violence!!!! all this talk of endless opportunity, why are you RESTRICTING me

Why is no one talking about the fact that Bill is probably back as a bird? The last two pages in the book of bill show the statues eye not glowing, and the last page the eye is glowing with that looks like a bird on his hand. I would show pictures but I don’t have the book on me atm! Anyways bird bill…. I must draw him….

soooo it sounds like they might be re-releasing the sims 1 & 2 soon, which negates a particular chunk of my sims zine regarding how neither game is supported by the publisher anymore and how you can still access them....... but either way i'm excited to finally share this big 60-page labor of love with everyone ❤️

i just sent the final version off to a badass local printer for a quote on getting some physical copies printed & bound, and the digital version of the zine will be available for free/pwyw as a token of gratitude to all the amazing sims modders and custom content creators that have been putting out their hard work for free for the past two decades.

i've been working on this zine in some shape or form since at least 2016 and i can't wait to finally share it. it's a love letter to a video game series that has been a big part of my life for almost as long as i've been alive and i hope you'll enjoy it ❤️

there are two versions of archives, with one of them containing recipe only folders, and the other one making some of the weapon a little fancier as far as my skills go (with sounds, effects and particles being added through custom enchantments). for the resource pack, drop the folder in .minecraft\resourcepacks; to add datapack, drop the folder in .minecraft\saves\WORLD_NAME\datapacks. be careful with the dissonance cannon!
